Kiwanis Music Festival

Kiwanis Clubs sponsor competitions in musical performance for students in secondary schools.

Middlesex Club members manage three competition venues during the Music Festival.

Commonly there are five jobs for volunteers at a venue: hall manager (most senior), secretary to the adjudicator, cashier, door marshal and room steward (ushering duties).

Approximately 1/4 of the hours volunteered by Club members per year are at the Festival.

Critical Care and Trauma Centre (CCTC), Victoria Hospital

A Middlesex Club member is frequently the liaison volunteer in the CCTC Waiting Room.

As assistant to the Ward Clerk, the volunteer provides information to visitors and coordinates patient visits following instructions from the nurse assigned to each patient.

Scheduling and training of all volunteers is done by the Hospital Volunteer Office.

Youth Clothing

Middlesex Club members provide new pullovers for needy students at 17 London schools.

The pullovers are distributed as prizes or gifts using non-conspicuous arrangements.

Of all Middlesex Club projects, Youth Clothing receives the most funding.

Western Fair Reception

Middlesex Club members are volunteers at Western Fair District during such events as Western Fair and the Farm Show.

The general objective is to promote urban-rural goodwill.

Personnel at Western Fair District assign duties and provide the training required.

Chelsey Park Bingo

Middlesex Club members operate "Kiwanis Monday-night Bingo" at Chelsey Park Retirement Community.

Mission Services London

Approximately once a month Kiwanians bring non-perishables to the regular Thursday meeting.

A Club member then delivers the contributed items to Mission Services London.

Meals on Wheels

Middlesex Club members deliver meals using their own vehicles requiring 1 to 2 hours per week.

Scheduling and background checks are done by Meals on Wheels, London.

Terrific Kids

At monthly assemblies, elementary school students are recognized for their efforts to live up to Kiwanis criteria of attitude and behavior; Terrific Kids Certificates are awarded.

The students are selected by their teachers.

Middlesex Club members attend the assemblies.

Reading Buddies

Elementary school students who are having difficulty learning to read are given the attention of a caring adult, a reading buddy; Middlesex Club members volunteer to be reading buddies.

Discussion with a reading buddy, guided by assigned questions, gives the student an understanding of story structure and language as well as comprehension.

Ready for School

Sessions, sponsored by Thames Valley School Board, are held for needy, pre-school children.

Each child is given a backpack containing material for his or her first days at school.

Middlesex Club provides funding for the program from the Bequest and Endowment Fund.

Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Drive

Middlesex Club members thank contributors and safeguard kettles in several London locations.
